Student Members
This portion of the website provides guidance to student members on what services are available through the Education Department and what is required of a student in order to be Called to the Bar of England and Wales. Relevant documents and forms can be accessed through this page.
AGIS is the Association of Gray's Inn Students. It is a student led organisation with a remit to liaise between the Inn's members and its Benchers and administration. AGIS is concerned with student welfare and so you will find an AGIS officer located in the AGIS office every weekday during the academic year. Students are encouraged to pop round the office for a chat or to purchase parking vouchers or to register for any or all of the AGIS sponsored student events. AGIS would love to hear that you are interested in mooting or debating or perhaps wish to go on a pub crawl with fellow students. The AGIS Ball occurs in the spring or early summer every year and without fail has been a resounding success.
Qualifying Sessions (QS), formerly known as Dining, are compulsory for all students wishing to be Called to the Bar. You must complete 12 QS within a two year period. To find out what kind of QS the Inn offers, when and how to register, click on Qualifying Sessions . You will find our yearly diary and an explanation of each of the QSs on offer. Booking Forms for QSs can be downloaded and printed from the Forms and Documents section.
Whether you have sorted a pupillage or are on the hunt, the Inn's Career Advice programme can be of use to you. We offer advice on chambers selection, covering letters, CVs and OLPAS forms. We set up mock pupillage interviews and offer a mentoring scheme where you can be paired with a barrister member of the Inn in the area of law in which you have interest. We appreciate the particular pressures that students can experience whilst undertaking the CPE/GDL, the BVC or searching for pupillage. Our door is open and we hope you will not hesitate to come in and talk with us.
The Inns of Court (Gray's Inn and three others) have the exclusive right to Call their members to the Bar of England and Wales. Though Call is but one step in the process of becoming fully qualified, it is the greatest step. Click on Call to the Bar to find out all you need to know about Call - what it is, when it happens and how it happens. Applications for Call are available through Call to the Bar , but read the Call to the Bar section carefully, first.
